The short answer
Roof painting is a restoration: broken tiles replaced, ridge capping re-bedded and flexible-pointed, the surface pressure cleaned and treated for moss, then a primer sealer and two membrane coats. Done properly it resets a tile roof for fifteen to twenty years.
A tired roof loses more than looks — porous tiles hold water, failed pointing lets it into the ceiling cavity, and rusted metal spreads under the lap. Roof painting done properly is a restoration, not a colour change.
We inspect and photograph every ridge, replace broken tiles, re-bed and flexible-point where required, treat rust and moss, then apply a sealer and two membrane coats for a uniform, high-build finish.
Typical specification: Nutech or Dulux AcraTex roof membrane systems, with anti-corrosion primers on Colorbond and galvanised steel.
How we prepare
Preparation is where the money either goes or gets saved, and it is the part you cannot see once the job is finished. This is exactly what happens before colour goes on.
Every ridge, valley and penetration is inspected and photographed first, so you can see the condition of a roof you will never stand on and understand exactly what is being repaired.
Broken and slipped tiles are replaced, valleys and gutters cleared, and cracked mortar bedding removed. Coating over failed pointing simply hides a leak path.
Ridge caps are re-bedded in mortar and finished with a flexible pointing compound that moves with thermal expansion instead of cracking out like rigid mortar does.
High-pressure cleaning strips lichen, moss and the chalky surface layer. A biocide treatment stops regrowth, then a penetrating primer sealer binds the porous tile face so the membrane has something to hold on to.
Concrete and terracotta tile
Nutech or Dulux AcraTex membrane systems — high-build, flexible and UV stable, with heat-reflective options that reduce roof-cavity temperature.
Colorbond and galvanised metal
Rust converter and etch primer followed by a metal-grade acrylic topcoat, colour matched to the Colorbond range.
Ridge capping
Flexible pointing compound over fresh bedding mortar, rather than sand-cement pointing that cracks within a few summers.
Heat reflective options
Solar-reflective tints in lighter colours measurably lower attic temperature through Melbourne's summer peaks.
