The short answer
Deep colours and decorative finishes expose every substrate flaw. A feature wall needs a Level 5 flat surface, a tinted undercoat to build true colour depth, and an approved on-site sample before application — the finish itself is the last and easiest step.
Deep, saturated feature colours are the least forgiving work in painting. Every roller lap, every under-filled screw hole and every soft cut line shows the moment the light rakes across it.
We level the substrate to a Level 5 finish where the colour demands it, use tinted undercoats to build true depth, and apply decorative finishes — limewash, Venetian plaster, micro-cement, metallics — with sample boards approved by you first.

How we prepare
Preparation is where the money either goes or gets saved, and it is the part you cannot see once the job is finished. This is exactly what happens before colour goes on.
Deep and dark colours reflect raking light down the wall and reveal every join, screw dimple and roller ridge. Where the colour demands it we skim to a Level 5 finish before any coating.
Large-format sample boards or a section of the actual wall are prepared and viewed in your own light, morning and evening, before a full application is scheduled.
A grey- or colour-tinted undercoat matched to the topcoat gives full depth in two coats instead of a thin, patchy three, and stops a deep colour reading blotchy across the wall.
Colour break lines, shadow lines and returns are laser set so the feature reads as a deliberate architectural element rather than a painted-on afterthought.
Limewash
Bauwerk and Porter's mineral limewashes for a soft, mottled, breathable surface with real depth of movement.
Venetian plaster and micro-cement
Trowel-applied polished finishes over purpose-matched basecoats, burnished to the sheen level agreed at sample stage.
Metallics and pearl
Decorative metallic glazes over a tinted base, applied in a controlled direction so the shimmer is even rather than streaked.
Deep saturated acrylics
Deep-base washable acrylics for near-black and heavily saturated colours, which need a specific base and extra coats to reach full depth.
